12 people who should be in prison instead of Bradley Manning

Source:  Liberation News

Who are the real criminals? Here's a preliminary list
On July 30, a judge in a military court found Bradley Manning guilty of 19 of the 21 charges brought against him. Although he was acquitted of “aiding the enemy,” the most serious he faced, Manning could still face a sentence of well over 100 years' imprisonment.

It is absurd that the U.S. government would prosecute Manning, a whistleblower who exposed crimes and secrets that were being covered up by the Pentagon and State Department. It is equally absurd that the so-called justice system allows the real criminals in society—Wall Street drug launderers, CEOs responsible for willful and deadly negligence, racist murderers, killer cops and war criminals—to walk free. Below is a list of a dozen people, in no particular order, who should rightfully be sitting in prison cells instead of Bradley Manning.

1. George Zimmerman

Racist vigilante George Zimmerman murdered 17-year-old Trayvon Martin on Feb. 26, 2012, in Sanford, Fla., as Martin walked home from a convenience store. Although Zimmerman got out of his car with a handgun and stalked the totally unarmed Trayvon, while muttering racist insults about “punks” who “always get away,” he was found not guilty by an overwhelmingly white jury. Zimmerman has shown no remorse and expressed "no regrets" for his cold-blooded crime, going so far as to ask the Black community to apologize to him following his outrageous acquittal.

2. Don Blankenship

Former Massey Energy CEO Don Blankenship is responsible for the 2010 Upper Big Branch mine explosion that killed 29 coal miners in Raleigh County, W. Va. His insatiable drive for greater and greater profit led him to blatantly ignore safety regulations—the mine was cited for 57 infractions the month of the disaster, including two the very day of the explosion

3. George W. Bush

President of the United States from 2001 to 2009 despite losing the popular vote in the dubious 2000 election, George W. Bush is a war criminal notorious for the 2001 invasion of Afghanistan and the 2003 invasion of Iraq. In addition to the deaths of well over 1 million civilians who were killed as a result of these wars, Bush supported the failed 2002 coup in Venezuela, the 2004 coup and subsequent occupation of Haiti, and the criminally negligent response to Hurricane Katrina, in which hundreds of mostly Black residents of New Orleans died after being totally abandoned by government “relief” agencies.

4. Johannes Mehserle

Bay Area Rapid Transit cop Johannes Mehserle murdered Oscar Grant, a Black man who had a 4-year-old daughter, on a train in Oakland, Calif., on New Year’s Day, 2009. Mehserle attacked Grant, who was trying to break up a fight, threw him on the ground and, while Grant was restrained and lying face down, fatally shot him in the back. Although Mehserle’s shocking crime was caught on video, he served less than eight months in prison and walks free today.

5. Joe Arpaio

Arizona's Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio is a symbol of racism and anti-immigrant hate, who has waged a campaign of terror against undocumented workers and all oppressed people since taking office in 1993. He regularly subjects prisoners to cruel and unusual punishment, was an outspoken backer of the SB1070 “show me your papers” law and has taken his department’s policy of racial profiling to such extremes that even the Department of Justice filed suit against him last year.

6. Ken Thompson

Money launderer of choice for a range of drug cartels, Ken Thompson served as CEO of Wachovia Corporation from 2000 until 2008—the sixth largest bank in the country until the financial crash led to its taxpayer-funded acquisition by Wells Fargo. He helped brutal narcotics trafficking syndicates embezzle an estimated $378 billion between 2004 and 2007, but unlike most victims of the racist war on drugs, his organization was able to settle out of court. They paid just a fraction of a percent of what they earned from their drug dealings.

7. Henry Kissinger

National security adviser from 1969-1975 and secretary of state from 1973 to 1977, Henry Kissinger played a key role in the genocidal Vietnam War and orchestrated the 1973 coup in Chile that led to 17 years of blood-soaked military dictatorship. For his distinguished service to world imperialism, he was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.

8. Richard Haste

On Feb. 2, 2012, Officer Richard Haste kicked down the door into 18-year-old Ramarley Graham’s home in the oppressed South Bronx neighborhood of New York City, and then ran upstairs and fatally shot Graham in his bathroom based on the suspicion that he was in possession of a bag of marijuana. Graham was completely unarmed.

9. Dick Cheney

A key figure in the notorious Bush administration, former Vice-President Dick Cheney played a central role in the murderous invasion of Iraq and the adoption of torture as an official government policy. The CEO of energy conglomerate Halliburton immediately prior to taking office, he used the brutal occupation of Iraq as an opportunity to reward his business connections.

10. Luis Posada Carriles

International terrorist Luis Posada Carriles began his career as a torturer for Venezuela’s now-defunct DISIP secret police, but soon became a central figure in the CIA-backed campaign of counter-revolutionary terrorism against Cuba. Along with his accomplice Orlando Bosch, he carried out the bombing of Cubana Airlines flight 455 in 1976, killing all 73 people on board. He now lives in Miami.

11. Oliver North

Current TV personality and author, Ret. Col. Oliver North was in charge of the Iran-Contra scheme in which he illegally funneled money to the “Contra” death squads attempting to undo the historic 1979 Sandinista revolution in Nicaragua. Working closely with cocaine traffickers, this arrangement was an important component of a broader reign of terror imposed by the U.S. government aimed at repressing revolutionary movements throughout Central America in the 1980s that led to hundreds of thousands of deaths.

12. Lamar McKay

As president of BP America, Lamar McKay is responsible for the 2010 BP oil spill following an explosion on the inadequately constructed Deepwater Horizon drilling rig that killed 11 workers. Hundreds of millions of gallons of oil filled the Gulf of Mexico over the course of nearly three months, destroying the environment and devastating communities along the Gulf Coast. Currently, McKay is head of BP’s Upstream unit, which is tasked with oil and natural gas exploration.

Trayvon Martin Hoodie To Be Displayed At Smithsonian Museum?

 Source

The hoodie has become symbolic of the Trayvon Martin case, where the 17-year-old was slain in Florida this past February. Protestors across the nation wore hoodies in memory of Martin, especially when the "not guilty" verdict was delivered in the case against George Zimmerman, who allegedly killed the teen in self-defense based on evidence presented.

According to ABC News, a Smithsonian exhibit may put Martin's hoodie on display in Washington, D.C. The director of a new branch of the Smithsonian, the National Museum of African American History and Culture, tells the Washington Post he would like the museum to acquire it for their collection.
"It became the symbolic way to talk about the Trayvon Martin case," Lonnie Bunch told the Post. "It's rare that you get one artifact that really becomes the symbol. Because it's such a symbol, it would allow you to talk about race in the age of Obama."
The National Museum of African American History and Culture is slated open in 2015.

Florida Cops Shoot Unarmed Black Man in His Driveway

Two Escambia County sheriff deputies have been placed on paid administrative leave after they opened fire early Sunday morning and shot an unarmed black man in his own driveway.

Roy Middleton, 60, had gone to find cigarettes in his mother's white Lincoln Town Car, which was parked in the driveway of the man's home in a quiet neighborhood in the town of Warrington.

A neighbor, who apparently didn't recognize Middleton, called 911 to report a possible robbery, and police arrived at the scene at approximately 2:40 a.m.

Their guns drawn, deputies Jeremiah Meeks and Matthew White told Middleton to put his hands where the officers could see them. Middleton told the Pensacola News Journal that he initially believed that the voices were from a neighbor who was playing a joke on him. When he got out of the car, however, the deputies began shooting. Read More

I'm not sure what the fuck is going on in Amerikkka but it seems like it's open season on black males. In Florida I guess every black man is a suspect. This is getting ridiculous, it's time for black people to standup and demand that this kind of behavior will not be tolerated.

Diddy To Start a New Music Television Channel

After making a deal with Time Warner Cable, Diddy's Revolt cable channel is almost all set to go. Hip-Hop mogul P. Diddy wants to bring music videos, news interviews, performances, and more to his new potential channel.

Diddy says, "My mission is to bring kids back to television" as apposed to channels such as MTV which used to be strictly music. P. Diddy is blaming reality TV for taking over these once "music channels." He wants to create an outlet where young people of ages 18 to 34 can enjoy the art of music without the unnecessary baggage.

"If I was in that position, I probably would have bit at that apple too, to be more than just a music channel and be more of a youth culture network. But sometimes it's better to do one thing great. The most powerful thing that brings us together is music," says Diddy.

However, Diddy doesn't plan to make his network a straight Hip-Hop channel. He says it will be a predominately "urban-based channel" but it will not discriminate.

This might be a good idea because there isn't a cable network that 's strictly dedicated to music anymore. There was a time when MTV, BET and VH1 were dedicated to music but now those channels are all about reality shows.

I hope this project from Diddy is successful, and I hope he's able to keep it independent. Because we all know once the corporate media comes in and buy a station out, the station is never the same.

80% Of Americans Will Face Financial Hardship In Their Life Time

From Think Progress:

Eighty percent of Americans will struggle with joblessness, live on the edge of poverty, or rely on public programs for at least part of their lives, according to an analysis of survey data from the Associated Press. The report defines “economic insecurity” as a year or more of periodic unemployment, relying on government assistance such as food stamps, or making an income below 150 percent of the poverty line.

The risk of falling into poverty has increased in recent decades, particularly for people aged 35 to 55, the analysis finds. That age group had a 17 percent risk from 1969 to 1989, but it’s increased to 23 percent. For those between 45 and 55, the risk jumped from 11.8 to 17.7 percent. The report predicts that by 2030, nearly 85 percent of adults will experience periods of economic insecurity.
:::::::

This is bad news for Americans of all stripes, the standard of living in America is declining and no one is doing a damn thing about it. The majority of the politicians in Washington have been bought off, there seems to be no one in DC who's working on behalf of the working class. There are a few national pols that seems to be fighting for the middle and lower class people but their power and influence is limited.

You have members of the Congressional Black Caucus and the Congressional Progressive Caucus who actually want to help poor and working class people but they're basically marginalize. The President rarely invites members of the CBC and CPC to the White House for meetings even though they  were his most loyal supporters.

The income gap is this country is getting wider every year. The rich and the wealthy are the only ones who have benefitted over the last couple of decades and they still want more. They know the country is in trouble financially and they still want to avoid paying their fair share of taxes. The rich have the entire Republican Party and half of the Democratic Party in their pockets, which means, the rest of us don't have a chance.

It's time for ordinary Americans to put their petty differences aside, organize and fight for our share of what's left of this country.

White Jury Finds George Zimmerman Not Guilty

Source: MSNBC

A Florida jury acquitted George Zimmerman on Saturday night in the shooting death of Trayvon Martin.
The verdict, from a jury of six women who deliberated over two days, was announced at 10 p.m. ET. Jurors also had the option of convicting him of second-degree murder or of the lesser crime of manslaughter. In the courtroom, Zimmerman’s family held hands across a row and cried.
This is fucking unbelievable, the American Justice System is a joke. I think George Zimmerman and his racist supporters should burn in hell!

MSNBC Host Melissa Harris-Perry Scolds Edward Snowden

I was watching the Melissa Harris Perry Show on MSNBC earlier today and I saw her criticizing Edward Snowden. Basically she chastised Snowden for making a spectacle of himself. Harris-Perry argued that by hopping from country to country in his attempt to gain asylum, Snowden is making himself into a bigger news story than the NSA surveillance practices his leaks revealed. In an open letter to Eric Snowden, Harris-Perry said the following:
We could be talking about whether accessing and monitoring citizen information and communications is constitutional, or whether we should continue to allow a secret court to authorize secret warrants using secret legal opinions.
But we’re not. We’re talking about you! And flight paths between Moscow and Venezuela, and how much of a jerk Glenn Greenwald is. We could at least be talking about whether the Obama administration is right that your leak jeopardized national security. But we’re not talking about that, Ed.
We’re talking about you. I can imagine you’d say, “Well, then stop! Just talk about something else.” But here’s the problem, even if your initial leak didn’t compromise national security, your new cloak-and-dagger game is having real and tangible geopolitical consequences. So, well, we have to talk about … you.
I would argue that the reason the story is all about Snowden rather than the NSA revelations is because media figures refuse to make the NSA surveillance the story. Being the paid hacks that they are, they chastise Snowden rather the Obama Administration. I'm sure Mr. Obama is happy that media talking heads are questioning the action of Edward Snowden rather than questioning the actions of his administration,

I was happy to see Al Sharpton and Melissa Harris-Perry get to host their own shows on a major cable news network, because we need diversity. But I'm a little disappointed because Sharpton and Harris-Perry have decided to use their media access to be nothing but apologist for the Obama administration.

Federal Employee Furloughs

Today is the first day of furloughs for thousands of federal employees due to sequestration cuts. Many conservatives and Tea Party types are probably pleased right now, they've been whining for years about how  government employees are overpaid. Since wages have been declining in the private sector, it seems they want to see everyone standard of living on the decline...everyone except the rich of course.

The conservative politicians have been demonizing government workers, while at the same time giving tax breaks to millionaires and billionaires. A lot of working class people have joined in the 'bashing of public employees', I guess, because they've seen their own wages decline over the years. A lot of people around the country have this 'crabs in a barrel mentality' basically saying "if I don't have health care or livable wages then Public Employees shouldn't either." My answer to that is, workers in the private sector should fight for higher wages and benefits; you can start by joining a fucking union.

Private sector workers should stop listening to those sellout conservative politicians who only care about the rich. All workers need to organize and fight for higher wages and benefits. Stop blaming public  employees and unions because your living conditions have decline. The reason private sector wages have declined is because greedy ass business owners have bought off your politicians so they can make more profits.

Big businesses have been allowed to do business with countries that uses slave labor or they hire illegal immigrants to do the jobs cheaper here at home. So if people in the private sector want to improve their standard of living, then they need to demand it from their employers rather than
criticizing public employees.

President Obama's Legacy Is In Jeopardy

I think President Barack Obama (PBO) need to quickly change courses because his presidency is now being condemned by the entire international community. He has chosen to align himself with some of the worse elements in the U.S. political landscape i.e., NeoCon/ DLC Free Trade Globalist.

PBO has alienated liberals and progressives from day one, even though liberals and progressives were his most loyal supporters.  He only selected DLC, Blue Dog Democrats and Republicans for positions in his cabinet, no true liberal or progressive were even considered.

Now with condemnation coming from abroad over spying allegations, I would say this administrations chickens are coming home to roost. PBO is no longer considered the 'hope and change' president that so many in the world hoped for; He's now considered a continuation of his predecessors imperialist policies, a 4th term of G. W. Bush.

PBO chose to govern as a center right politician and what has it gotten him?  Pushing right wing policies has gotten him an NSA spying scandal, an awful economy, and condemnation from people around the world who believed he would be different.

PBO has a secret Hit List in which he's giving himself the prerogative to kill anyone he feels deserve to die, without producing any evidence. His Justice department refused to prosecute any of the big banksters that wrecked the economy nor did they prosecute any of the torturers in the Bush Administration. The Supreme court has turned into a tool of the corporations.

Obama seems to talk like a liberal but acts like Dick Cheney. He is getting advice and following the authoritarians down into a hole we may never get out of.

Is The Democratic Party's Chickens Coming Home To Roost?

All the mainstream media's analyst and pundits are predicting a blood bath for the Democratic Party this coming election. The Democratic Party is now scrambling in the final hours to try to get their supporters to get to vote on November 2. They are reminding us how scary those nutty Tea Bagger candidates are and that we can't allow those extremist to take power. And yes I agree those Tea Baggers are fucking scary but if the Republicans and the Tea Baggers take over the House and Senate, it will be the fault of the spineless and corrupt Democratic Party.

The Democratic Party was put in power in 2006 to change the course that the counry was on. But as soon as the Democrats won control of congress in 2006, they immediately started making excuses that they couldn't bring about the changes they promised because they didn't have big enough majorities in congress and plus they needed to keep their powder dry and focus on winnig the White house in 2008 in order to bring about true change and reform. So in 2008 the supporters of the Democratic Party went to work and got out the vote and the Democratic Party won the White house and huge majorities in the house and senate. But what happen? As soon as the Democratic Party gained power they started to walk back the promises they had made to their base and basically continue business as usual.

So now as we fast forward to 2010, the Democratic Party's base has basically lost faith in the Democratic Party. They no longer trust the Democratic Party. The Democratic Party base do not like the Tea Baggers but they are no longer fired up to go out and vote for the Democrats either.

Democrats started breaking their promises to their base as soon as they gained control of congress in 2006 and it continued under President Obama. Here are a few examples of Democrat politicians turning their backs on their supporters in an attempt to appease the Washington insiders, big business interest and uphold the status quo:

Four years ago John Conyers was all talk about investigating the Bush Administration for lying the nation into a war in Iraq. Prior to the 2006 elections, he even signed on as co sponsor to one or more bills to impeach Bush and Cheney for waging illegal wars to torture. But as soon as John Conyers became chairman of the House Judiciary Committe, the coward did complete about face and Bush and Cheney got off scott free. And with Obama basically continuing most of the Bush foreign policies, the Democratic Party has essentially legalized the atrocities of Bush and Cheney.

In 2006, the party base was expecting the Democrats to end the illegal wars but instead in 2007 the Iraq war was escalated under a Democratic controlled congress, and in 2009 the Afghanistan war was escalated under a Democratic controlled congress and Whitehouse. So things remained business as usual on the war front.

The bank bailouts were passed under the Democratic controlled congress, candidate Obama even left the campaign trail to go to Washington to bring some reluctant Democrats on board.

Democrats never passed the Employee Free Choice Act. Despite a massive Latino vote in 2006 and 2008, that community has nothing to show for its efforts but higher fences, drones on the border, and more deportations.

I guess the final straw for the Democratic Party voters was the watered down Health Care bill with no Single Payer and no Public option. They sold out to the Insurance and Pharmaceutical companies.

If you throw in the weak bill the Democrats passed to regulate the Wall Street and the Financial industry and the way they have shunned the LGBT community, it's not hard to figure out why Democratic Party voters are not excited this November.

The Sell Out Of The Liberal Class

I ran across this article about how the liberal class has sold out to the corporate state. It's a very good article that describes how the liberal class including the Universities, Churches, Media, Unions and the Democratic Party stopped caring about poor people and started embracing capitalism just so they could maintain their access and privileges in the modern corporate state of America.

The article is by Chris Hedges and I advise every Liberal and Progressive out there to read the entire article you will come away with an understanding of why the Democratic Party has become so impotent and ineffective. I've posted a couple of paragraphs below but you should read the entire article:

The lunatic fringe of the Republican Party, which looks set to make sweeping gains in the midterm elections, is the direct result of a collapse of liberalism. It is the product of bankrupt liberal institutions, including the press, the church, universities, labor unions, the arts and the Democratic Party. The legitimate rage being expressed by disenfranchised workers toward the college-educated liberal elite, who abetted or did nothing to halt the corporate assault on the poor and the working class of the last 30 years, is not misplaced. The liberal class is guilty. The liberal class, which continues to speak in the prim and obsolete language of policies and issues, refused to act. It failed to defend traditional liberal values during the long night of corporate assault in exchange for its position of privilege and comfort in the corporate state. The virulent right-wing backlash we now experience is an expression of the liberal class’ flagrant betrayal of the citizenry.

The liberal class, which once made piecemeal and incremental reform possible, functioned traditionally as a safety valve. During the Great Depression, with the collapse of capitalism, it made possible the New Deal. During the turmoil of the 1960s, it provided legitimate channels within the system to express the discontent of African-Americans and the anti-war movement. But the liberal class, in our age of neo-feudalism, is now powerless. It offers nothing but empty rhetoric. It refuses to concede that power has been wrested so efficiently from the hands of citizens by corporations that the Constitution and its guarantees of personal liberty are irrelevant. It does not act to mitigate the suffering of tens of millions of Americans who now make up a growing and desperate permanent underclass. And the disparity between the rhetoric of liberal values and the rapacious system of inverted totalitarianism the liberal class serves makes liberal elites, including Barack Obama, a legitimate source of public ridicule. The liberal class, whether in universities, the press or the Democratic Party, insists on clinging to its privileges and comforts even if this forces it to serve as an apologist for the expanding cruelty and exploitation carried out by the corporate state.
