Florida Cops Shoot Unarmed Black Man in His Driveway

Two Escambia County sheriff deputies have been placed on paid administrative leave after they opened fire early Sunday morning and shot an unarmed black man in his own driveway.

Roy Middleton, 60, had gone to find cigarettes in his mother's white Lincoln Town Car, which was parked in the driveway of the man's home in a quiet neighborhood in the town of Warrington.

A neighbor, who apparently didn't recognize Middleton, called 911 to report a possible robbery, and police arrived at the scene at approximately 2:40 a.m.

Their guns drawn, deputies Jeremiah Meeks and Matthew White told Middleton to put his hands where the officers could see them. Middleton told the Pensacola News Journal that he initially believed that the voices were from a neighbor who was playing a joke on him. Why White Right Wingers Are Attacking The First Black President

President Barack Obama recently met over beer with Professor Henry Louis Gates, Jr. and Sgt. James Crowley, hoping to diffuse tense debates over racial profiling and racial bias triggered by the arrest of the Harvard University scholar by the Cambridge, Mass., police department officer.

Though that racially charged conversation may be over, vicious attacks on the first Black President of the United States are not. Analysts say don't expect the attacks to end anytime soon.

The most outrageous charges may have come from radio and TV talk show host Glenn Beck. “I'm not saying that he doesn't like people I'm saying he has a problem. He has a, this guy is, I believe a racist,” he said during a morning show on Fox News Network July 28. The president has a deep seated hatred for White people or their White culture, said Mr. Beck.

“Beck is paid to do just what he did and his remarks represent a psychological game that's being played by people who have no program, nothing positive, and no alternative and it's absurd for them to even start throwing around that Barack Obama is racist when his mother's White and most of his cabinet is White,” said Dr. David Horne, executive director of the California African American Political and Economic Institute, a political think tank in Southern California.

“The criticisms are nonsense and really are the desperate acts of people who don't like being displaced in terms of their image and sense of who they are,” Dr. Horne said.

Since he announced his candidacy, Mr. Obama and his family have been maligned, slandered, and targeted by right wing and so-called independent media hosts. Among those who have focused on largely discredited issues are right wing radio host Rush Limbaugh and self-described “independent” CNN host Lou Dobbs.

Verbal assaults against Mr. Obama have ranged from outright racist insults to doubts about the president's citizenship, his religion, his patriotism and his racial loyalties. Whites known collectively as “the Birthers” have refused to accept proof Mr. Obama, the son of a White American mother and a Kenyan father, was born in Hawaii. They haven't been satisfied by the birth certificate circulating on line, or produced by both the Obama campaign and the state of Hawaii. They aren't alone.

Black Intellectuals criticize White House 'Beer Summit'

Despite the overwhelming election of President Barack Obama, the inherent prejudice against people of color remains alive and well in American society, said a panel of Black intellectuals, critics and activists today.

"This whole notion of a post-racial society is ridiculous, we need to stop saying it, we need to stop even talking about it," said BET's Jeff Johnson. "Let's be honest about the fact that many of us from all races are racist…. We've lied about progress."

The statement was part of an assessment of the "State of Black America," an annual conversation held at the yearly convention of the National Urban League, which produces a report of the same name.

Johnson's statement emerged out of a conversation that revolved around – you guessed it – beer.

Unlike some in the media who saw the meeting as a significant step forward in resolving the issue of racial profiling and the underlying prejudice, many on the panel thought it was a mostly empty gesture.

"It is a significant brouhaha [but] I'm not sure it gets to what 'ales' (ails) us," commented George Washington University professor Michael Eric Dyson. "The real problem is still on the streets where disproportionate numbers of Black and Latino men and women are subjected to arbitrary forms of police power."

Johnson agreed in even starker terms.

"I'm offended by the discussion at the White House," the political commentator said, "because if they were serious about solving this problem, Gates would be there, Crowley would be there, but so would Tyrone and Shaniqua and other young people who have dealt with this kind of psychosis from the police; they are not represented in this conversation."

Where Gates was coming from is a history of Black men like Sean Bell and Amadou Diallo, who have been shot and killed by police, and longtime criminal policies that disproportionately target Black and Hispanics, several on the panel said. And those structural inequities would not be addressed by looking only at individual cases like Gates'.

"We're looking at a macro problem through micro lens," said Schott Foundation President John Jackson, who said the larger problem was the law enforcement environment created by former President Ronald Reagan.

"In 1980, the Reagan administration institutionalized new criminal justice policies [and] you began to see a 70 degree spike in the number of incarcerations for Black males," Jackson said. "So we can't have this conversation without talking about the systemic policies and practices. And you're not going to solve that macro challenge by just tipping back a few beers at the White House."

Johnson said solving that overarching problem of deep-seated racism is something that has to happen on a personal level, he's more concerned about acts of discrimination within government agencies.

"I don't care if you're racist or not…I am concerned with the way you do your job," he said.

GOP Returns To The " White Voters Strategy"

I guess leaders of the Republican party has made a decision. They are no longer going to go after the minority vote, it's full steam ahead as the party of white voters. At one point they use to at least pretend to be concerned about attracting the non white vote but not any more. Thomas Edsall has a good article on this new reality:

With Republican party leaders so constrained by ideological blinders that none of their positions is likely to produce gains among non-white minorities, especially Hispanics, the GOP is finding it has no real alternative but to revert to a "white voter" strategy.

To some extent, it's working. The party's opposition to President Obama's agenda -- particularly his cap-and-trade energy proposal and health care reform plan -- is resonating strongly with disaffected white Democratic voters. Republican grievances about Obama, combined with race-baiting commentary from the far-right ideologues who have become some of the most dominant voices of the modern GOP, have led to a precipitous drop in the president's approval ratings among whites.

It's all very reminiscent of the party's notorious Southern Strategy, which carried the GOP for decades. But that strategy backfired spectacularly in the 2006 and 2008 elections, and there's no reason to think it will work any better in 2010 -- especially given the ever-growing importance of the minority electorate.

In this respect, even if the GOP picks up a few House and Senate seats in 2010, many of the party's top analysts believe that it will remain mired in minority status through 2012 and beyond. Other analysts say it may even decline to the level of a minor regional party, with its only real strength in the South.

Republican pollster Bill McInturff notes that his party must make substantial gains among Hispanic voters or be relegated to minority status. But that just isn't likely.

With a solid majority of Republican senators opposed to the appointment of Sonia Sotomayor, the first Latina nominee to the Supreme Court, and a solid phalanx of adamant Republican opposition to any immigration reform which provides a path to permanent residency of illegal immigrants, the GOP has no real chance of increasing its share of the Hispanic vote.

In the short term, McInturff and others point out that virtually all the Democrats' vulnerabilities are among Anglo voters, especially white men. These trends are likely to produce some victories for Republican candidates in 2010, but the party continues to have long-term problems in building a sustainable election-day majority.

The Corporate Media Is Behind The Racist Birther Movement

It's like the "Swift Boat" campaign on steroids, run by Jim Jones.

Of course, try to get a single payer healthcare spokesperson on television and you're met with a corporate media cry of how out of the mainstream such advocates are, that Medicare for everyone is a "fringe" movement.

We've written over ten years about how when the corporations control the media, they control our government by persuading people that misinformation favorable to the plutocracy is true. They've started to succeed even with the lunacy of the "Birther Movement."

With race relations back on the front burner and all eyes on a bunch of guys drinking beer in the White House, Stephen Marche wonders where all the angry black entertainers have gone. Here, an exclusive preview of his October column, A Thousand Words About Culture.

Nobody wants to hear it, but this fact is too important to ignore: So far, the first African-American presidency has been one of the worst ever for African-Americans. The economic crisis has predominantly hit non-white working class men; the collapse of the auto industry is threatening to destroy the basis of the Midwestern black middle class. Key matters for African-Americans languish — the overincarceration of young black men that makes a mockery of American justice being the number one example. Government aid? That goes to bankers in Connecticut. If the President were white, there would be riots. In this contradictory atmosphere — pregnant with the tension between symbolism and reality — the Henry Louis Gates Jr. scandal has landed with a force out of all proportion to what may or may not have happened in Cambridge. While the bizarre story of his arrest in his own home may seem like an anomaly, it has emerged from a deep national confusion evident everywhere in popular culture. Call it the Obama Discrepancy: Race is much less prominent as a subject while its effects are no less toxic.

Network television has somehow become even whiter since the inauguration, a nearly impossible feat. The Game is gone. Everybody Hates Chris is gone. In May, the Congressional Black Caucus sent a letter to the networks wondering why the Sunday morning talk shows weren't asking any of them to the grand festival of pompous palaver. Fred Armisen does blackface nearly every weekend on SNL, and the main objection to his performance is that he's not objectionable enough; he has no bite, no edge. To make matters worse, the first post-election crop of new shows starring African-American characters coming out this fall is dreadful. Cleveland, the black spun-off character from Seth MacFarlane's The Family Guy, loses every molecule of his funniness the moment he leaves Quahog. "We have a black president," Cleveland's new friends say. "It's about time we had a black friend. We can talk to him about the President." Fox's second offering in the we-have-a-new-president line is Brothers. It's just another dumb sitcom, but I guess I hoped the political transformation of the recent past would leave some mark. Nuthin'. Obama offers America a new model of black male power: become a lawyer, be nice to everybody, marry a good woman, be loyal to her, fight hard, and eventually you will be in charge of whether to blow up the world with the push of a button. The model of black power in Brothers? Play football well and your brother might open a restaurant. The comedy in Brothers is terminally dated; the jokes deflate before your eyes like a soufflé when the oven's been turned off unexpectedly.

One could argue that since the creators behind both Brothers and Cleveland are white, the shows never really had a chance: white people have never known how to talk about race, hiding their shame and fear behind silence or awkwardness. But African-Americans are beginning to retreat from race as well. Chris Rock — half-comic genius, half-prophet — has been keeping busy, and quiet, with a documentary about the culture of African-American hair. Dave Chappelle remains in hiding. Tyler Perry's oeuvre is, essentially, one long-running, feel good "yo momma" joke. The kind of monumentally new, staggeringly fresh hip-hop album the Obama Event seems to cry out for has not emerged. The Wire proved that virtually all the best actors in America are African-American. Why is Idris Elba not doing Othello on Broadway right now?

grant that the situation is tricky. Now that an urban African-American male is the world's most powerful person, the cultural symbols of race and disenfranchisement have become much more complicated to negotiate. The social context has been pulled out from under even the most sophisticated iconography. Take the case of Kehinde Wiley, one of my favorite new painters from the past decade. His most famous portraits present hip-hop stars in scenes culled from the Old Masters: Grandmaster Flash holding a scepter, Ice-T as Napoleon. His contrasts between the European and the African-American modes of projecting power are slippery and fascinating. Or rather they were. Now that Obama wears a crown, Wiley's work has moved from art into the realm of the art-historical. And he's only thirty-two. The problem is that every day, just by his existence in power, Obama makes race seem less relevant. Take any of his major decisions, good or bad. Iran? Closing Guantánamo? How have any of them been shaped by his race? The quantity of melanin in his pigmentation has not meaningfully affected the world. All of the best African-American comics used to do bits about the First Black President. It was a hilariously preposterous concept even a few years ago. Eddie Murphy imagined him giving all his speeches on the run to stay a moving target, Chris Tucker thought he wouldn't bother with bodyguards and just pack his own gun and Rock did a regrettable feature length film on the premise (Tag line: "The only thing white is the house"). To me, Chappelle's Black Bush was the finest of them all and the funniest skit in the whole show. ("Stankonia has said they're willing to drop bombs over Baghdad.") But last November, the world called their bluff, and the color of Obama's skin doesn't make a damn bit of difference in the daily business of running the world.

It's easy for Eric Holder to say that America is "a nation of cowards" for not talking about race. He's the first African-American Attorney General in history, a figure of transcendence from the nausea and awfulness and brutishness of quotidian experience. Imagine a New York City subway car if it weren't filled with "cowards" but instead with honest and frank discussion of what everyone is really thinking. No one would get to work. Everyone would be murdered by the end of the ride. So why are we forcing Professor Gates and Sergeant Crowley to have a beer together at the White House? Surely, this small gesture isn't going to accomplish anything and has to be one of the more preposterous, awkward bits of political theatre to emerge from recent media cycles. A little chat is not going to deal with the reality that a short, grey-haired and somewhat fragile old man was led out of his own house in handcuffs for absolutely no good reason. No. We need artists and entertainers to confront the nastiness that the rest of us don't want to confront. The difficulty and confusion of the present moment are bursting with potential. Let's not waste it.

Being President while Black

Barack Obama sure knows how to throw a bad party. Last night's Rose Garden get-together was the most awkward beer bash in history. It was as if Obama invited a couple over and didn't know they were exes. Good times.

Seriously, this was our teachable moment? What exactly were we taught -- that racism can be fixed with a cringe-inducing photo op?

I'm not saying that the arrest of Henry Louis Gates, in his own home and after providing ID, was racist. I wasn't there so I don't know. Only Officer Crowley knows. But as Obama correctly said in his press conference last week, black men are too often pulled over by cops because of race. (Actually, everything he said about the Gates case in that press conference was correct, including his use of the word "stupidly." Too bad he was cowed into retracting it.)

The phenomenon called "Driving While Black" is nothing new. But now the so-called Birthers have come up with a novel variation on it: President While Black. They are essentially pulling Obama over and asking him to show his license and registration.

Here's my teachable moment: let's not be afraid to use words like "stupid" and "racist" when they apply; let's stop using the word "post-racial" altogether; and please, just when the conversation is starting to get interesting, let's not settle it over a few beers

The Juice Got Squeezed For Up To 33 Years, Was It Payback?

A broken O.J. Simpson was sentenced Friday to as much as 33 years in prison for a hotel armed robbery after a judge rejected his apology and said, "It was much more than stupidity."

The 61-year-old football Hall of Famer stood shackled and stone-faced as Judge Jackie Glass rattled off the punishment. Moments before, Simpson made a rambling, five-minute plea for leniency, simultaneously apologizing for the holdup as a foolish mistake and trying to justify his actions.

He choked back tears as he told her: "I didn't want to steal anything from anyone. ... I'm sorry, sorry."

Simpson said he was simply trying to retrieve sports memorabilia and other mementos, including his first wife's wedding ring, from two dealers when he stormed a Las Vegas hotel room on Sept. 13, 2007.

But the judge emphasized that it was a violent confrontation in which at least one gun was drawn, and she said someone could have been shot. She said the evidence was overwhelming, with the planning, the confrontation itself and the aftermath all recorded on audio or videotape.

Glass, a no-nonsense judge known for her tough sentences, imposed such a complex series of consecutive and concurrent sentences that even many attorneys watching the case were confused as to how much time Simpson got.

Simpson could serve up to 33 years but could be eligible for parole after nine years, according to Elana Roberto, the judge's clerk.

I think OJ Simpson got the correct verdict in his murder trial, and I don't think he should have had to tip around for the rest of his life so people didn't perceive him to be arrogant or rubbing their faces in it because he wanted to go golfing. He is the poster child for "Don't mess with our white girls!" every since that day, and black men have carried this weight since the days of slavery when blacks were hung for looking at a white woman. This is why a lot of black mothers tell their sons to "leave those white girls alone" because "white society" will not treat you the same if things go wrong. OJ is the one black man who is perceived to have gotten away with something against a white woman. Had he been married to a black woman, nobody would care if he was found not guilty. His life would have gone on. But because she was white, he deserves to rot in hell, or die in jail, EVEN IF he was proved to be innocent in a court of law.

Why Black Businesses Have A Hard Time Surviving In America

Why do Black businesses have a hard time surviving in America? Deric Muhammad did a good job trying to explain this problem and to offer some advice to black entrepreneurs. Deric Muhammad breaks it down like this:

Over 300 years of chattel slavery in America totally destroyed Black people’s natural desire to do-for-self. After Abraham Lincoln issued the executive order known as the Emancipation Proclamation, Black slaves were declared free, yet were given few opportunities to make a living to feed their families. Many slaves immediately returned to the plantations of their slave masters because they did not know what else to do.

For a long time, slaves were forbidden to read and write. However, the slave master made certain they knew how to count. How else were they to keep up with their daily cotton quotas on the plantation? Many slaves utilized the skills that they mastered as plantation workers and began doing business for themselves. As a matter of fact many slaves had already started businesses and became strong enough economically to purchase freedom for some of their family members. A price was paid before Black people were able to do business in the United States of America.

Yes slavery played a big part in shaping black people mind set to form somewhat of a dependency on white people. But later on, after slavery and during Reconstruction and Jim Crow, black people started businesses and over all a lot of the businesses were successful. One reason is, prior to integration blacks were not welcome in white establishments so they relied on black businesses for their services. So these black businesses strived. But when segregation ended black customer made a mad dash to the white businesses and left the black businesses to struggle. Deric Muhammad goes on to explain:

Our businesses thrived in this country when we understood the urgency of moments in time like “Reconstruction,” the Great Depression and Jim Crow. We knew that if we did not support one another we could not survive. Prior to integration, Whites refused to do business with us.

These days it is difficult to keep a Black business open. According to statistics, Black-owned businesses open and close faster than businesses owned by any other ethnic group in America.

He goes on to talk about some of the problems plaguing black businesses today. He also offers advice on how to correct this problem so black businesses can be competitive in todays market:

I regularly hear horror stories about how hard-working people pay Black contractors to do a job that never gets finished. You sometimes show up at a coffee shop or restaurant and they are closed when they are supposed to be open. Too often, we say that we will have a service completed by a certain date and fail to deliver. Many Black businesses close themselves down.

Now let’s flip the coin to the Black business patron. Too often good Black businesses cringe at doing business with our own people, because we are always looking for “the hook-up.” There are good Black contractors who finish jobs and then are paid with a rubber check! We show up at the Black coffee shop just to use the internet and then go buy a latte from Starbucks. Sometimes Black business owners just give up or move to the suburbs because doing business in the ‘hood, proves to be too challenging.

In all fairness, these business snafus are not only relegated to Black businesses. You can go anywhere in town and find poor customer service. However, if we are to survive during these economically challenging times, we must get back to the basics of nation building and self-development. We must support Black businesses that are serious about doing business and eliminate businesses that poison the water that we all must drink from.

In order to do business, we must show character. We must open and close when we say we will open and close. We must treat the Black customer with the same regard that we would treat a dignitary. It does not matter whether the brother or sister is spending $5 or $5,000. If you treat us like kings and queens, we will return to do business with you once again.

Violent And Racist Threats Against Obama Spreads Around The Country

If you thought America was entering a new day on race relation in this country with the election of Barack Obama, the first African American President, you may be sadly mistaking. With right wing hate radio spewing hatred daily against Barack Obama, you also have the gun lobbyist out and about with their campaign against Obama and you have a dangerous situation on your hand. I just ran across a chilling story of students with guns openly talking about assassinating Obama. From Editor&Publisher

A few days ago, the Associated Press and some other news outlets picked up on the disturbing. But at Editor & Publisher we are still receiving tips and personal accounts every day, often from small towns in both red and blue states.

Just this morning, for example, the Mount Desert Islander weekly in Maine reported that a third effigy of a black man had been found hanging from a tree in the area since the election. This was was in Somesville, following reports of others in Tremont and Bar Harbort. The paper observes: "State police also are investigating the incidents, which are believed to be in response to the election of Sen. Barack Obama as president."

Here is the latest note to us today from a student in Iowa (I have her name and address but won't release it here), a state Obama carried rather easily. It is much in line with reported incidents of other school kids, some as young as 7 or 8, talking about "assassinating" Obama. Of course, they couldn't carry that out themselves but what is chilling is that they are likely just repeating language or threats they hear at home.

Here is that email:

"I'm not sure who to email on this, but there have been several derogatory things said about Obama in our school, and one of them got a student suspended. I go to a school in a little town called Letts, Iowa. We are pretty down home, country road farm kids out here. But never, in my 11 years at the school, have I ever heard the conversation take such a negative turn.

"The remark that the student was suspended for was this, "Well, it's called the White House for a reason. We need to get that God damn N----- out of there."

"There were other remarks, mostly by students who hunt. They were discussing how far a shotgun could shoot, and decided that they could get to a high enough vantage-point to shoot Obama from at least 2 miles away, without anyone ever knowing where the shot came from. 'Another Kennedy' they were saying."

Last night a reader tipped us off to an incident in another Obama-friendly state, Michigan, in the town of Buchanan. Members of the South County Democratic Club woke up Saturday to find their building vandalized with swastikas and racist comments, spray painted on the side of the structure. These kind of incidents have been too common to list all of them.

The weekly based in Wasilla, Alaska, which boosted hometowner Sarah Palin throughout the election campaign, provided column space this week to a local student who alleged anti-Obama racial comments the day after his election. Here's an excerpt from The Frontiersman op-ed by Waverli Raine.

Finally the campaign was over and I was actively supporting our new president, even though I knew I would be vastly out numbered at school. I expected complaints and qualms about the new president, but I was not prepared for the flat-out racist remarks said openly in the halls and classrooms. I was appalled. While I sat at my desk trying to do my work I could hear my fellow classmates:

“I think we should kill Obama,” one said.

“I hope someone comes up and shoots him in the head,” another would say.

“I hate Obama … he’s black.”

On went the racist words for the full 80 minutes of that class. Angered, I began to think of the injustice of it all and the ignorance of the students I was surrounded by. I wondered where they learned to be so hateful, and I wondered why the teacher never stepped in - why no adult, no student, including myself, had the guts to cut in and say it was not OK. Because it’s never OK for intolerance.

You know those fucking kids got those ideas from home. I swear I despise those racist right winger so much. Sometimes I wish we could just wall off a part of the country and dump all those vile people in one place and let them have their George Bushes and Sarah Palins as their leaders.

Ralph Nader: Obama Will Be Uncle Sam Or Uncle Tom

Ralph Nader says Obama must choose if he's going to be Uncle Sam or an Uncle Tom. All I can say Ralph has pretty much lost it in his old age, he was unsuccessful at being a spoiler this time around so he seems to be lashing out in any direction. check out video below:

D.L. Hughley CNN Show .... An Embarrassment To Blacks?

You've probably heard by now that CNN gave comedian D.L. Hughley a show. The
show is titled "D.L. Hughley Breaks the News" and Hughley is suppose to
present the news with a comedic twist to it like The Daily Show with Jon
Stewart and the Colbert Report with Stephen Colbert on Comedy Central. Based
on the first episode which premiered on October 25, some black people do not
think it was funny at all as a matter of fact some blacks think it was an
embarrassment and a disgrace.

Before we go any further take look at a segment from the show and remember
this is a program on CNN not BET or Comedy Central:



Joe Madison, black talk show host on XM 169 the power had a discussion about the program on his show this morning and the listeners calling in basically said the new D.L. Hughley show is an insult to African Americans. Here is what Christopher J. Metzler at the Daily Voice had to say about the new Hughley show:

As the election draws to a close, one major cable news network decided to
discuss race in a mephitic way, reminiscent of "Amos and Andy", a situation
comedy based on reinforcing stereotypes about blacks and widely popular in
the United States from the 1920s through the 1950s.

The show's anchor warned that the election of a President Obama would lead
to a health plan with grills for all. Grills are shining metal caps worn on
the teeth of blacks while they drink malt liquor from a paper bag. His
guest, "Freddie Mack," attired in the traditional pimp attire complete with
hat and bling, described Obama's fund raising prowess as "Big pimping." In
fact, Freddie Mack went on to say, "Politicians are pimps and the electorate
are their hoes." Thus, he reasoned, "bitch better have my money." In a
response dripping with racism and misogyny, he reminded Americans that the

The anchor also predicted that the election of a President Obama would
result in a meteor striking America. His expert guest assured him of two
things. The first is that such would not happen during an Obama
administration and that if it did, blacks would be protected because of the
complexion of our skin while whites would not. As if this was not enough,
the anchor conducted an interview in which a black maid of a Jewish woman
decried her years as a maid for that Jewish woman and warned that she would
"clean her clock" if the old Jewish woman did not vote for Obama. Of course,
besides portraying black women as violent, it also escalated the issue of
Jews voting for Obama during this election. The message, it seems, is that
blacks cannot convince with the facts but with fists.

McCain and Palin [has] created a racially charged atmosphere at some of
their rallies which resulted in shouts of "kill him, off with his head, and
terrorist" referring to Senator Obama. I have said that such an
atmosphere is akin to the lynch mobs rallies which resulted in the
gratuitous lynching of black men especially during the Jim Crow era. These
rallies and the attendant racially tinged atmosphere were condemned by CNN.

Now I've never really had a problem with D.L. but dude got to come better than
he did on the first episode. That shit was corny. Barack Obama has raised
the bar if you get a show on a major news network you can't go on there
with your Shucking and Jiving routine, you got to represent. D.L. need to get some more writers or something and come up with some witty intelligent shit, or he need to tell CNN thanks but no thanks.

Neo Nazi Plot to Kill Obama, African Americans Foiled

A plot by two Neo-Nazi skinheads to assassinate Barack Obama and kill dozens of other African Americans has been foiled, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms said Monday.

Daniel Cowart, 20, of Bells, Tenn., and Paul Schlesselman, 18, of West Helena, Ark., were charged Friday with making threats against a presidential candidate, illegal possession of a sawed-off shotgun and conspiracy to rob a gun store.

Jim Cavanaugh, special agent in charge of the Nashville ATF field office, said the two men sought to go on a national killing spree that included an unnamed African-American school, with Obama as their final target.

The two planned to shoot 88 black people and decapitate another 14, he added. The numbers 88 and 14 are symbolic in the white supremacist community.

“They said that would be their last, final act — that they would attempt to kill Sen. Obama,” Cavanaugh said. “They didn’t believe they would be able to do it, but that they would get killed trying.”

You know these white supremecist hate groups have been laying low for the the last eight years, I assume because they've had their guy "W" in the White house. In the 90's under Clinton they were pretty active. You had the white militia groups training for warfare and of course you can not forget the infamous Timothy McVeigh committing the most deadly act of domestic terrorism in the history of this country.

Well these boys are back and are angry as hell that a black man is about to become President of white america. I'm afraid we will be hearing more and more about these fuckers in the future.

For you little so called gang bangers and other haters out there in the black community, you better wake up and stop committing violence and hating on your own people and realize that there is a real enemy out there that despises you. They would like to commit harm against you and your community simply because of the color of your skin.

Another Lynching in Texas?

This is a story that's under the radar at the moment. I came across it over at Final Call.com. It took place in Paris, Texas. The body of Brandon McClelland a 24 year old black man was found mutilated and dismembered in the middle of a busy road, the local police are calling it a hit and run accident but the McClelland family think it was a hate crime.

When the body of a 24-year-old Black man in Paris, Texas was discovered in the middle of a busy road, law enforcement declared the case a hit and run by an unidentified driver.

Now this small racially-divided town’s worst fears are brewing, with evidence pointing towards two White men who picked up Brandon Clelland in their Dodge truck before he was found mutilated and dismembered in September.

Forensics performed by the Texas Rangers found blood from Mr. McClelland and other DNA evidence on the undercarriage of the truck which has the victim’s family calling the death a “Jasper-style” lynching. The term is a reference to the murder of a Black man in Jasper, Texas in 1998.

“The[y] tied my son to that truck and drugged him until his body parts were detached,” said Jacqueline McClelland, the victim’s mother in an interview with The Final Call. “His body was so destroyed that it could not even be embalmed by the funeral home. This is a hate crime. I don’t want the death penalty for these killers because that would be too quick. I want them to suffer for life in jail without parole since I will never have my son back.”

Angry family members and community activists, however, are demanding a thorough investigation into a possible hate crime they say parallels the lynching of James Byrd Jr., in Jasper, Texas, which is several hours south of Paris.

McCain Supporter Lied About Mugging

I had wrote about this story yesterday, you can read it here. A young white woman, who we now find out is a McCain supporter, claimed she was robbed and assaulted by a big black guy who carved a "B" on her face after he realized she was a McCain supporter. I said at the time that the story sounded fishy, well come to find out after her story was not adding up she has confessed that the story was a hoax. A MOTHERFUCKING HOAX!

I don't know what they are going to charge her with but considering Amerikkka'a past, she should get more than a slap on the wrist, the heifer should be charged with a hate crime IMHO.

A couple of generations ago if she would have did this, there would have been some angry white mob roaming around looking for some black guy to lynch. Even today in 2008 with the racial tension directed against Barack Obama candidacy there could have been some racial violence going on in this day and age, all it takes is a spark.

Now there is a story over on Daily Kos that says the McCain campaign actually pushed the story. Here is what is being said:

John McCain's Pennsylvania communications director told reporters in the state an incendiary version of the hoax story about the attack on a McCain volunteer well before the facts of the case were known or established -- and even told reporters outright that the "B" carved into the victim's cheek stood for "Barack," according to multiple sources familiar with the discussions.

John Verrilli, the news director for KDKA in Pittsburgh, told TPM Election Central that McCain's Pennsylvania campaign communications director gave one of his reporters a detailed version of the attack that included a claim that the alleged attacker said, "You're with the McCain campaign? I'm going to teach you a lesson."

The McCain spokesperson's claims -- which came in the midst of extraordinary and heated conversations late yesterday between the McCain campaign, local TV stations, and the Obama camp, as the early version of the story rocketed around the political world -- is significant because it reveals a McCain official pushing a version of the story that was far more explosive than the available or confirmed facts permitted at the time.

So McCain campaign was willing to push a story before it was even confirmed that could have caused a racial war in this country just to win this election. McCain and his campaign is pathetic.

Black Obama Supporter Mugs White Woman?

I just saw this story on the news about a black 'Obama Supporter' who allegedly mugged a white woman and when he turned away he noticed she had a John McCain sticker on her car he turned back around and carved a 'B' on her face. First thought that popped in my head was that the Republicans were up to their old dirty tricks again. I guess we can call this Willie Horton II or Willie Horton 2.0. Here is the story just in case you haven't heard about:

A 20-year-old woman who was robbed at an ATM in Bloomfield was also maimed by her attacker, police said.

Pittsburgh police spokeswoman Diane Richard tells Channel 4 Action News that the victim was robbed at knifepoint on Wednesday night outside of a Citizens Bank near Liberty Avenue and Pearl Street just before 9 p.m.

Richard said the robber took $60 from the woman, then became angry when he saw a McCain bumper sticker on the victim's car. The attacker then punched and kicked the victim, before using the knife to scratch the letter "B" into her face, Richard said.

Richard said the woman refused medical treatment after the assault, which happened outside the view of the bank's surveillance cameras.

The robber is described as a dark-skinned black man, 6 feet 4 inches tall, 200 pounds with a medium build, short black hair and brown eyes. The man was wearing dark colored jeans, a black undershirt and black shoes.

Now let me get this straight, after the incident the woman refused any medical attention and the incident happened outside of the view of the surveillance cameras. In other words we are suppose to just take her word for it.

Fuck that! Something smell fishy as old cooch. McCain and the Republican party are desperate as hell and their looking for any thing to latch on to to try to rile up their knuckle dragging base, even if it means initiating a race war. Republicans don't care about this country, they only care about maintaining power at all cost even if it means starting riots in the street.

So people hold on to your hats because the next 13 days is going to be something to remember. Besides you can't hold Barack Obama responsible for everything a black person do just like you didn't hold Bush or McCain responsible for what Timothy McVeigh did.

Edit: This incident just happen to take place in the battleground state of Pennsylvania, a state in which the McCain campaign must win and is trailing by double digits.

Rush Limbaugh Unhinged: Spews racist hatred against black people

As we are witnessing, the conservative movement is in shambles now and the only thing they can do is spew racist hatred out into the world and hope it sticks to their audience in droves. And how is the conservative right going to make sure race is all you can think of when you think of the name Obama?

How about by making the case that blacks in general are lazy, angry, and engaged in a 3 decades old plot to train black children as militants against the US? It's those scary black terrorists again. Don't think anyone would actually SAY that? Think again.

Here are few of the quotes Rush Limbaugh recently said on his radio program:

Limbaugh: We know that technological advancement is going along at light speed. And yet during this period of time, whether it be the last 57 years or be it the last 20 years, it seems that a majority of the black population has remained angry, frustrated, and behind. They've been left behind. They are acting like they've been left behind, and of course we've heard that this is because of racism, natural systemic institutional racism in America, that we are unfair, that this country is just horrible and rotten.

...The federal government became the father. The father didn't have to hang around in order for the kids to be okay, depending on how you define okay. But as you study more and more of this ACORN stuff, you find that it has been part of an entire movement that has been going on for two, maybe three decades, right under our noses.

We thought that it was just liberal welfare policies and all that that kept blacks from progressing while other minorities grew and prospered, but no, it is these wackos from Bill Ayers to Jeremiah Wright to other anti-American Afrocentric black liberation theologists with ACORN, and Barack Obama is smack dab in the middle of it, they have been training young black kids to hate, hate, hate this country, and they trained their parents before that to hate, hate, hate this country. It was a movement. It was a Bill Ayers, anti-capitalist, anti-American educational movement. ACORN is how it was implemented, right under our noses.
It has been a movement, it has been a religion, and Obama and Jeremiah Wright and William Ayers were all up to their big ears in it.

Drudge Plays the Race Card

In the New York Times, Adam Nagourney identifies "race" as one of the six factors that could prevent the election of Barack Obama. The others, as paraphrased by Mark Halperin, are "(1) not everyone who has recently registered as a Democrat may vote on Election Day; (2) the Democrats' improved voter turnout effort may still not work as effectively as the Republicans' effort, (3) the race may swing back to McCain under the "pendulum theory," and (4) a national security event in the closing days could "shuffle the deck of cards," and (5) the Ayers attack could end up sticking."

Matt Drudge appears to have decided which horse he is going to ride. All day, the Drudge Report, which has been more one-sided than usual recently (lots of Bill Ayers, little Troopergate), has featured this picture of Barack Obama (presumably) campaigning in Ohio.

Will Racism Destroy the GOP?

Yesterday, we were treated to the bizarre spectacle of John McCain trying to talk down his own supporters as their anger boiled over and they slandered Obama in crazed, often racist terms.

"No, ma'am," McCain replied to a woman's declaration that Obama was an "Arab terrorist."

Yeah - where would you have gotten that crazy idea?

Apparently, McCain and his advisers had no idea how ugly the strain of race-baiting they were stirring up would look, once it was out there in the light of day, and are now reconsidering their strategy. Funny, since anyone who's stopped by NoQuarter or RedState lately could have told them exactly what to expect.

McCain's strange contortions in trying to raise doubts about Obama show the dilemma the GOP finds itself in. The attacks that conservatives seem to relish most, be it Ayers, Wright, or Obama's obscure ties to African dictators, have practically no substance or bearing on the day to day concerns of voters and little appeal to the independents the GOP needs to win elections. But, should Obama get elected, that's exactly what we can expect from the right-wing noise machine, in spades. I wouldn't be surprised if the likes of Limbaugh and Hannity are secretly salivating over the prospect of an Obama presidency, so they can crank the hate and fear up to 11 and sell lots of books with scary titles.

In some ways, the rise of Obama-hatred is just a manifestation of a larger trend that's been bubbling under for quite some time. With whites set to become a minority within decades, it may have been inevitable. Almost every country with a large influx of immigrants has seen a nativist political movement rise up to counter the cultural shift. Dovetail that xenophobic strain with the cultural conservatism that has been the mainstay of the GOP base for the past couple decades, and you could have a powerful movement focused on American traditionalism, one that has been building for some time but that was sparked into being by the first black president.

If Obama gets elected, expect to hear lots of "Remember when..." and "I barely recognize this country anymore!"

At the same time, this week's embarrassing focus on McCain's unruly crowds revealed that this movement could do more to hurt the GOP than to help it.

Republican Congressman Ray La Hood denounced Palin's attacks on Obama, saying they "don't befit the office she's running for" and "certainly don't reflect the nature of the man." It's also hard to interpret McCain's clumsy walking back of his own attacks as anything other than a response to GOP insiders worried about where this is taking them.

So they've lost David Brooks, and Bill Buckley's son...you have to wonder how many other fiscal/libertarian conservatives are going to flee the GOP if the turn towards "small town values" and cultural issues continues, combined with the newfound race-baiting rhetoric directed towards Obama. What happens if that rhetoric boils over into instances of right-wing domestic terrorism and violence a la Timothy McVeigh?

And so the GOP will face a choice, both now and in 2012. Do they go full-in with the culture war approach epitomized by Palin, Tom Tancredo and others? Or will they move in the other direction, towards a kind of social moderation of the kind practiced by Schwarzenegger or Michael Bloomberg? And, if they do moderate themselves, how will the rabid, nativist element of the base react?

Today's AP story wasn't exactly about the so-called "Bradley Effect" or "Wilder Effect," a popular theory in the 1980s and 1990s that posited that some white Americans lie to pollsters claiming they will support African-American candidates but vote then against them in the secrecy of the ballot box.

The theory - if it was true back then - has been very thoroughly disproved in recent years, and today we'll walk you through all the documentation you need to debunk it when asked about it by others.

But with the McCain-Palin ticket sinking in the polls, and the financial crisis sucking the oxygen out of the culture war "issues" on all sides, with the economy now front and center as the dominant campaign issue, we're hearing increasing mention of the so-called "Bradley Effect," the so-called "Wilder Effect," the so-called "Bradley-Wilder Effect" (all names for the same 20th century theory).

And now, the Associated Press and its unethical reporter Ron Fournier are transparently attempting to turn the November election (and, if their attempted arson is successful, its aftermath for years to come) into a wedge to divide, polarize and set back race relations in the United States of America more than four decades.

Everybody take a deep breath and repeat after me: The race card is not working. It's not going to work. And we're not going to take the bait being dangled out in front of us by racially prejudiced provocateurs like Fournier: he wants us to spread his gasoline to make his arson fire bigger; we're going to hose water on it - and on him - instead.
