Hollywood Stars Contribute In Droves To Obama
In a sequel to President Obama's celebrity-laden 2008 campaign, many of Hollywood's biggest stars are on his donor rolls again in 2012, according to the latest FEC records.

Since April, big-screen stars George Clooney, Will Ferrell and Tom Hanks have all contributed to Obama's re-election campaign, as have Gwyneth Paltrow, Jennifer Garner, Michael Keaton and Eddie Murphy.

Republicans seek $600 billion in savings by cutting federal workforce
GOP Sens. Orrin Hatch (Utah) and Tom Coburn (Okla.) on Tuesday introduced legislation that aims to save $600 billion over 10 years by freezing federal salaries and bonuses, cutting employees and contractors by 15 percent and cutting the federal travel budget by 75 percent.

It would also require the administration to cut the size of the federal workforce by 15 percent over 10 years, amounting to 300,000 fewer workers. "This could easily be accomplished through attrition and would save taxpayers over $225 billion over that time," Hatch said.

Pakistan Blast Kills U.S. Troops, Children, Say Local Officials
SHAHI KOTO, Pakistan — A roadside bomb killed three U.S. soldiers and partly destroyed a girls' school in northwest Pakistan on Wednesday in an attack that drew attention to a little-publicized American military training mission in the al-Qaida and Taliban heartland.

They were the first known U.S. military fatalities in Pakistan's lawless tribal regions near the Afghan border and a major victory for militants who have been hit hard by a surge of U.S. missile strikes and a major Pakistani army offensive.

The conservative young filmmaker who tarnished the reputation of a liberal activist group with his undercover videos has been arrested for allegedly trying to bug Democratic Sen. Mary Landrieu's office in New Orleans. Federal investigators allege that James O'Keefe was among a group of four men who created a ruse to enter Landrieu's downtown office for the supposed purpose of repairing the lawmaker's telephones. O'Keefe and another man, Stan Dai, are accused of aiding the plot, while two others, Joseph Basel and Robert Flanagan, are accused of pretending to be telephone company employees, according to federal court records (PDF) unsealed today.

According to the 2008 official Pentagon inventory of our military bases around the world, our empire consists of 865 facilities in more than 40 countries! In just one such country, Japan, at the end of March 2008, we had more than 99,000 people connected to the U.S. military living and working there. What do Japan and Germany and the 40 plus other countries have to do with 9/11? This has nothing to do with our defence. These massive concentrations of American military power outside the United States are not needed for our defence. They are, if anything, a prime contributor to our numerous conflicts with other countries. They are also unimaginably expensive. The United States spends approximately 250 billion each year maintaining its global military presence. The sole purpose of this is to give us hegemony -- that is, control or dominance -- over as many nations on the planet as possible. It’s not about defence, it’s about dominance.
